BioTexCom in international mass media: what does European press say about Kyiv reproductive center

For a long time, Center for Human Reproduction “BioTexCom” became known not only in European countries among infertile patients, but also was widely discussed in mass media.
Year after year, the number of people who wanted to give an interview about clinic’s work increased. There were a lot of TV programs, as well as newspaper articles and even a book about “BioTexCom” service, surrogate mothers stories and stories of the European couples who had treatment in Kiev.
Starting working in the capital of Ukraine, top management of the clinic, as well as the whole team of doctors and managers, could not even imagine that they will become such a big breakthrough in Europe. Today it is a well-developed, ever-expanding, modern center for reproduction that deals with foreign infertile couples. Successful pregnancy in 65 years, pregnancy after 13 years of infertility, winning lawsuits. All this and even more was covered by European media.

It’s not a secret that surrogacy programs are banned almost everywhere in Europe. Egg donation is allowed only in a few countries but quite often these programs offer not very favorable conditions (for patients, as well as for donors). In Ukraine, however, all these programs are absolutely legal. That’s why Europeans seek for medical help outside of their home countries.

For most citizens of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, England and other countries, Ukraine has become the place of the legal conducting of such ART programs as surrogacy and egg donation.

International media couldn’t miss this fact and prepared their cameras and recording devices. Slowly, year by year, journalists from all over the world were coming to Ukraine only to make an intriguing story about this Ukrainian center that stirs whole Europe. But “BioTexCom” is quick to make reasoning for international journalists to come there over and over again.

“Babies for Sale? Transnational surrogacy, human rights and the politics of reproduction” edited by Miranda Davies. This book was created by activists and scientists from different countries, as an international study of transnational surrogate motherhood. This book also includes information about Ukraine, as the friendliest country in the matter of surrogacy. The BioTexCom clinic is also mentioned here. Authors noted the high level of medical and administrative services in the clinic.

Patients from Germany wrote the book “Die wunschkinder: wenn die verzweiflung keine grenzen kennt unsere kinder aus dem bauch einer leihmutter”. It was dedicated to the BioTexCom center. The couple has described all stages of the surrogacy program in the Ukrainian clinic, their emotions, as well as thanks to all the clinic’s staff who helped them to become parents.

The Swiss radio SRF 1 held a discussion: “Should surrogacy in Switzerland be legal?”
One of the clinic’s patients joined the discussion and shared her surrogacy experience in Ukraine. She told that with the help of the surrogate motherhood program in one of the Ukrainian clinics she became the mother of twins.

Italian media cover the Ukrainian clinic widely. This is all linked to the fact that the center takes into programs a huge number of Italian clients. There are enough articles that criticize the clinic because Italy is a very religious country where surrogacy goes against religious views. However, an Italian journalist wrote a book about surrogacy in which she mentioned “BioTexCom”:

 Thus, in 2012 all of the internet, newspapers and TV channels blew up with the sensational news: “This 66 years old Suisse woman gave birth to quadruplets after IVF treatment in Ukraine!”.

The headlines were snazzy: «BioTexCom makes old women mothers!” “Ukraine has forgotten about ethics and morality: mother at 66 and this is a common thing for them.” and so on.

 At that time, clinic attracted attention of many people, not only of mass media but also of infertile families in Europe. Everyone was talking that there is a medical center providing such service and that it’s absolutely legal. The number of foreign clients who want to make appointment with «BioTexCom» increased. A report was filmed recently. It was all about Ukrainian Reproductive Medicine without borders, and a fulfilled dream of an aged client was called a “special offer” on the baby-making market of East:

 In addition, this time MITTELDEUTSCHER RUNDFUNK showed a 66- year-old patient with a baby on her lap.

The news about 65 years old German teacher was a surprise for all European media. The teacher treated by means of egg and sperm donation got pregnant and became a mother of 3 baby boys and a baby girl.

 Thousands of newspapers such as WELT, Spiegel, Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote about her condemning actions of the adult woman who already has children.

One way or another, the healthy woman delivered children in May 2015 and now she considers herself a self-made mother (she has 17 kids including the quadruplets) and answering the question “what is normal?” she says “one decides it for oneself”. Therefore, Annegret Runigk became the oldest mother of quadruplets in the world! Her children become 2 years old this year and the woman looks at her future with optimism.

One of the most important references to the clinic can be considered a book Kinder machen, published in 2014, devoted to the issues of reproductive medicine, written by Andreas Bernard. One section of this book is devoted to the clinic Biotexcom and describes egg donation and surrogacy processes. Recently BioTexCom team was surprised by their client’s book about fertility treatment in BioTexCom. Author, Bianca Smith, wrote and published her very own book within a few months. She respectfully mentioned BioTexCom clinic in the short description and now the book is a bestseller on Amazon. Bianca Smith kindly shared with everyone her own IVF treatment experience and unsurprisingly the reviews on the Amazon WEB-site are really good.

News are not always so positive. The scandals and investigations are the sense of journalists’ work, so the object of the interest is in the firing line. However, as the wise men said, criticism is the key to success and it does not matter what people are talking about; it is important that they are already talking!

 Journalistic investigations are the most truthful and interesting among others because it is hard to be ready and think about all details before visit of media. Moreover, you can’t even know when a journalist snicks into your territory and he is about to collect the information about you. This happened to «BioTexCom» once. British journalist pretended to be a potential patient in order to find out all the details and features of the clinic, playing her cards close to the vest.

When a company achieves high efficiency in its sphere and it is developing, making innovations and improving its results, it becomes popular among  more and more people, the media, competitors, potential partners and, of course, infertile couples around the world. Nowadays there are many patients from Germany at the clinic. One of the stories was told by German media. There was a couple from Germany, 55 and 48 years old, which made their dream of a child come true by using donor egg surrogacy in «BioTexCom». The couple has been waiting for the happy day for 17 years! They’ve decided on surrogacy in «BioTexCom» clinic.  Surrogate mother has successfully carried and delivered twin girls.

This is just a small list of media that turned their gaze of cameras and photographic lenses at the clinic «BioTexCom», which successfully works in the capital of Ukraine. It should also be mentioned that the center is not only engaged in performing the ART programs. Embryonic stem cells are also in the range of the interests of Ukrainian specialists. Cooperating with many European colleagues, as well as having the support of a friendly legislation, medical specialists of «BioTexCom» clinic conduct experiments, the results of which are going to change lives of millions of people suffering from various diseases in future. And as practice shows, as well as international media, «BioTexCom» center is always one step ahead of its competitors!
